What Biden-Harris Victory Means!

A new day in America, this is a testament to our democracy. This is a groundbreaking election and a great day for America as a country elected the first women of color as Vice President of the United States of America. In addition, once every vote is counted, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory and receive more votes than any other candidates in the history of our country.

The groundbreaking election and electing women of color also restore the belief that this is a country where anything is possible. Biden said it best this campaign is about the “soul of America” and the American people have chosen hope over fear, truth over lies, and compassion over indifference!

The BidenHarris campaign built one of the broadest coalitions in history, this is the first time in history any candidates formed a sub-group of a coalition to outreach voters “i.e. Bangladeshis for Biden National Council”. Long before the Biden team subgroup, a team of volunteers formed one of the most robust coalitions and engagement program in history (Bangladeshi Americans for Political Action “BAPA”) to educate Bangladeshi Americans about the election and the importance of VOTE, I’m a proud founding member along with some of the most enthusiastic leaders with an unwavering commitment to our democracy, honored to be part of the team with Anika Rahman, Tahmina Watson, Nahida Ali, Ahsan Chowdhury, Shams Siddiqi, Kawser Jamal, Anthony Pius Gomes, and Sheikh Galib Rahman) for working hard to educate, disseminate and involved so many Bangladeshi leaders and community organizers to Get Out The Vote (#GOTV), and our work paid off as we have the highest turn out of Bangladeshi Americans VOTE ever in U.S. history. Our communities of color made a difference in this election more than ever before. Please pat yourself in the back who worked, organized, and volunteered for the campaign, every American who got involved in their own way, and everybody who voted for the first time. Your commitment made a difference. Enjoy this moment of joy.

Biden-Harris team will face a series of extraordinary challenges that no other incoming President ever has – a raging global pandemic, an unequal economy, and justice system, a democracy at risk, the climate in peril, and above all, the outgoing president will leave no information for his team to work on, besides, Senate will do what they have done to President Obama, as Mitch stated his only agenda was to block President Obama for everything irrespective of what it is.

President-Elect Biden must issue a series of executive action on Day 1 to not just reverse all of the damage Trump has done, but go further and faster:

  • Rejoin Paris Climate Agreement
  • End Muslim Ban
  • Clear Plan to Tackle COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Addressing the Immigration
  • Addressing the Healthcare
  • Addressing the Police Reform
  • Bring Mitch to the table to negotiate the Stimulant Plan that Congress passed
  • Make environmental mandate for all federal agencies
  • Bring Bipartisan Congress and Senate to enact an irreversible path to achieve economy-wide net-zero emissions
  • Biden should appoint members from each community of color to his transition team, looking forward and keeping his campaign promise which will help his reelection in 4 years
  • Appoint a coalition of ground zero leaders as advisors to his administration so they can reach out to each community who will disseminate his message directly to “We The People”

Now the real work begins, as the election results at every level show that the country remains deeply and bitterly divided. It will be up to us, to do our part – to reach out beyond our comfort zone, to listen to others, to put the harsh temperament, lower the temperature, find common grounds to move forward, as we are one nation, under God. We must work together to rebuilding our country so the Biden-Harris team and our government can help make people’s lives better.

Let’s “Build Back Better”, stay engaged, our active citizenship and sustained focus is required to endure our democracy. I look forward to working as hard as I did during the campaign and supporting our next President, Vice President, and our First Lady in any way I can.
