It is an immense pleasure to know that a new online news portal named “Bengali Herald” is going to be launched soon from the from Washington DC Metro area to pave the way for building a better community. Considering the technological developments around the world and easy access to the digital media by the masses, millions of information are at our fingertips. This demands a need for a reliable portal that brings the reliable news and objective views with a fair commitment. It is expected that “Bengali Herald” is will fulfill that need. We, the Bangalee diaspora in North America and beyond, are now looking forward to a portal that we can rely on amongst hundreds of online news portals. “Bengali Herald”, headed by a group of motivated young people from Washington metro area, has proclaimed its commitment to bring us the news and views that reflects ethical journalism along with opening an avenue for literary broadcasts. আমি বাংলা ভাষার গর্ব নিয়েই সাংবাদিকতার জগতে এসেছি। ৬০এর দশকে অনুষ্ঠান ঘোষিকা, স্থানীয় সংবাদ পাঠ, ছাত্রছাত্রীদের জন্য অনুষ্ঠান দিয়ে পথচলা শুরু কখনও ভাবিনি। শখের ব্রডকাস্টিং করে কয়েকটি দশক পেরিয়ে গেল। বাংলার প্রচার-প্রসারের লক্ষ্য পেশা জীবনের অঙ্গ হবে একদিন নেশায় পরিণত হলো। তারপর হয়ে দাঁড়ালো দারুণ আকর্ষণীয় পেশা।
দিনে দিনে কালি-কলমে হাতের লেখা, ম্যানুয়েল টাইপ রাইটার থেকে বৈদ্যূতিন, তারপর কম্প্যূটার, ল্যাপটপ, আই প্যাড, মুঠো ফোন, ডিজিটাল, ফেস বুক। সাংবাদিকতার আধুনিকায়নের নানা রূপ দেখে চলেছি আর যুগের সাথে তাল মিলিয়ে যতদূর সম্ভব সবাই এগিয়ে যাচ্ছি। এরই মাঝে খবর পেলাম Bengali Herald প্রবাসে সাংবাদিকতার জগতে নতুন উপহার নিয়ে আসছে। আধুনিক প্রযুক্তির মেলায় নিয়ে আসছে সংবাদ-তথ্যউপাত্তের নতুন সম্ভার। প্রবাসী বাংলা ভাষাভাষীদের জন্য সুসংবাদ অবশ্যই। অনলাইন ডিজিটাল কার্যক্রম। বৈচিত্র্যে পূর্ণ অভিবাসীর দেশ এই যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে বাংলাদেশী কিশোর তরুনদের সুন্দর ভবিষ্যত গড়ে তোলার, বাঙ্গালী সমাজে নানা তথ্য সরবরাহের মাধ্যমে চমৎকার সম্পর্ক গড়ে তোলার লক্ষ্য নিয়েই কাজ করবে Bengali Herald সেই কামনা করি। আমাদের প্রবাস জীবনকে আরও সমৃদ্ধ করবে এই তথ্যভাণ্ডার সেই আশাকরি । অনেক শুভেচ্ছা – শুভকামনা।
